Background-
South African investment in Dubai has crossed AED 1 billion, or about $294 million, over the past five years, showing stronger economic ties between the two markets. The update was shared by a senior official from Dubai Chambers during a Dubai–South Africa Business Forum held in Johannesburg.
Dubai Chambers said the investments have flowed into key sectors such as information and communications technology, pharmaceuticals, and food industries, along with other high-growth areas. The wide spread of investments reflects rising confidence in Dubai as a global business hub.
The official said Dubai Chambers is actively supporting companies to expand into international markets, with a special focus on Africa, which is seen as a region with strong trade and investment potential.
The forum was part of Dubai Chambers’ ongoing trade missions under its “New Horizons” initiative, which aims to help businesses explore new markets and build long-term partnerships. It marks the 13th such mission to African countries since the programme began.
A delegation of 24 Dubai-based companies from different sectors took part in the forum. They explored business opportunities in South Africa and discussed ways to strengthen cooperation with local firms.
Dubai Chambers also highlighted the role of its office in South Africa, which supports companies entering the market and helps them connect with local business networks.
Officials said they expect trade and investment between Dubai and South Africa to keep growing and the efforts to attract investment and strengthen economic ties will support long-term cooperation between both regions.
