Background

In Qatar, there was FDI capital expenditure of $3.4 billion for 373 projects, which created 15,051 job opportunities, as stated by Invest Qatar in its Annual Report. In the FDI capex, more than half of the total went into greenfield projects, while almost half of all the projects were categorized as medium- to high-technology investments. This demonstrates that there is considerable investor confidence in the Qatari economy.

This has been attributed by Invest Qatar to some of the fundamentals that exist in Qatar, such as state-of-the-art infrastructure and a favorable regulatory environment. Sheikh Faisal bin Thani bin Faisal Al-Thani, Minister of Commerce and Industry and Chairman of the Advisory Council of Invest Qatar, said the country stayed focused on strengthening its resilient economy despite a shifting global backdrop, achieving milestones that reinforced its position as a leading investment destination.

Qatar recorded a 52% rise in new FDI projects, growing to 373 from 245 the previous year. The top five sectors, consumer products, business services, food and beverages, software and IT services, and textiles, together accounted for 69% of total projects.

Invest Qatar expanded its international presence with representatives in London, New York, Paris, Mumbai and Istanbul, and launched a $1 billion national incentives programme covering advanced industries, logistics, technology and financial services. It also upgraded its Invest Qatar Gateway digital platform, which now hosts more than 15,000 registered users and over 900 companies.

Sheikh Ali Alwaleed Al-Thani, CEO of Invest Qatar, described the year as one of purposeful progress and growing confidence in the nation’s long-term economic vision. Qatar also ranked among the top 10 globally in a major competitiveness index and climbed 21 places in a global greenfield FDI performance ranking.
