Background
The heirs of former Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi have sold his Sardinian estate, Villa Certosa, to a Qatari hospitality company in one of the biggest private property deals in Italian history.
Constellation Hotels Holding, a Qatar-owned group, paid around 350 million euros, or 395 million dollars, for the property, which sits in the Costa Smeralda region on the island of Sardinia.
The estate carries a long and controversial history. For decades, it served as Berlusconi’s private retreat and became widely known for parties that drew sharp public criticism and triggered several investigations during his years in power.
Villa Certosa stretches across roughly 300 acres along the Mediterranean coast and holds around 126 rooms across multiple buildings. The grounds include large swimming pools, an amphitheatre, wide landscaped gardens and a rare cactus collection.
Berlusconi died in June 2023, having owned and used the property for both personal and political purposes over many years. The villa remained one of the most talked-about private residences in Europe throughout his time as prime minister.
Constellation Hotels Holding runs a portfolio of high-end hospitality assets. The purchase adds to a growing list of Qatari investments in high-value European properties.
Italy has seen a sharp rise in interest from international buyers, with luxury coastal estates attracting some of the biggest deals in recent years.
