Background
WEG, a global manufacturer of electric motors and drive systems, will host a free technical webinar on Medium Voltage Variable Speed Drive Systems (MV VSDS) in the second week of July to help industrial professionals improve energy efficiency and optimise high-power motor applications.
The webinar will be led by Luiz Claudio Santos, Team Leader of High Voltage Solutions (HVS) at WEG EMENA. It is aimed at engineers, plant managers, consultants, EPC contractors, OEMs and other professionals working with high-power motor systems.
The session will focus on how medium voltage variable speed drives can reduce energy consumption, improve process control and enhance operational reliability. According to the International Energy Agency, electric motor systems account for about 45% of global electricity consumption, making them a major area for industrial energy savings.
WEG said many industrial facilities still operate pumps and compressors at fixed speeds or use inefficient flow-control methods. In suitable applications, medium voltage drives can deliver significant energy savings, with investment payback often achieved in less than two years.
Santos said the webinar will help participants assess whether medium voltage drives are technically and economically suitable for their operations. He added that the session will explain available technologies and provide guidance on selecting the right solution for different applications.
Participants will also learn about WEG’s integrated approach to combining motors, drives and electrical systems into customised solutions. The webinar will showcase the company’s MVW01 and MVW3000 medium voltage drive platforms, designed for industries including oil and gas, mining, water and wastewater, cement and power generation.
